Building healthy

relationships

program.

The Building Healthy Relationships Program (BHRP) is a collaborative initiative focusing on community-led primary prevention and gender equality programs in schools throughout the region.  As a multidisciplinary project  emphasising safety, and the cultivation of respectful relationships, BHRP consists of three components. Informed by a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to violence against women, BHRP advocates for the integration of Respectful Relationships & Consent Education within schools and community, promoting a holistic approach grounded in a gender-based analysis of violence.

The three components of BHRP.

Schools & community group programs.

Steps 2 Respect (S2R) is a series of six, one-hour workshops for secondary school students. Designed by Allambee and facilitated by our Peer Advocates, (young people aged 18 to 25 years), the program focuses on relationship rights, responsibilities, and choices we all have and aims to enhance young people's understanding of power dynamics within relationships. S2R teaches skills in defining respectful and controlling relationships (including friendships), identifying the warning signs of control/abuse, and setting boundaries.

Whole school approach.

The BHRP project works in collaboration with schools to review existing programs and resources which address respectful relationships education. It also identifies gaps across the five action areas of: Leadership & Culture, Curriculum, Professional Learning, Resources & Support, and Systems & Processes. An action plan is developed in consultation with schools to guide the implementation of Respectful Relationships & Consent education in their identified areas.

Professional development.

Professional development workshops are offered as part of our whole school approach to provide school staff with the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge in areas such as: Responding to Disclosures, Family and Domestic Violence, The Role of Gender Equality, and Effects on Children. Our professional development sessions support staff to review current embedded practices and implement change among students as part of the whole school approach.
